Biography

Anil Bharwani's background in customer service and his extensive contacts built over a lifetime of conquering new challenges are the attributes that you want to have on your side of any property transaction.

Anil began his professional career in England, where he emigrated after completing his University Education in Arts, Economics and Political Science. Working as a financial manager he quickly distinguished himself by demonstrating an ability to make connections and contacts throughout the organization to improve and speed up the flow of information in sales and finance.

In the mid-seventies he moved to Calgary to take a position with Husky Energy where he earned a reputation as the 'go to' guy when dealing with Husky's many owner operators. In 1980, he decided to 'cross the street' and become an owner operator himself so that he could put his extensive operational knowledge to work on building his own family's business.

Over the next 25 years Anil and his wife Zulekha operated a number of Husky gas stations and Corner Stores. Each time they took over an operation, they beat previous sales records and consistently achieved top honours, from Husky Energy in the field of service excellence. Their record of success in Courtenay, Abbotsford and the place that has become their home town, Maple Ridge, is famous within the company.

Anil and his wife Zulekha recognize the importance of giving back to the community that so generously provides them with a living. Anil has served in a number of key positions with the Chambers of Commerce in Courtenay, Abbotsford and Maple Ridge. He has been an active member of Rotary in the communities that he has lived in, in addition to lending his experience, time and money to numerous other important organizations.

Anil has been the past Treasurer for 2yrs, and President and Chair for7yrs of the Meadowridge School Society, an organization that has grown from a very humble elementary school to a full Kindergarten to Grade 12 program with a complete campus boasting assets in excess of $10,000,000. His marketing and business acumen combined with his community invovment have been a key part of the team that has built this school.

Anil has closely worked with the organisers of the Law Enforcement Torch Run that raises money for the BC Special Olympics. Over the course of a few years Anil and his family have helped raise over $10,000 for this worthwhile cause.

He has been an active member of Rotary in the communities that he has lived in. Rotary continues to play a major part in his life. As a member of the Meadowridge Rotary club Anil has embraced Rotary's principal motto: "Service Above Self" and its code of ethics "The 4-Way Test" which requires Rotarians to practice the highest ethical standards in their personal and professional lives.

As a Board Member of the Maple Ridge Community Foundation, Anil is lending his energy to help build the Endowment Fund.
